About DAAWN

DAAWN – Domestic Abuse Awareness in the Workplace Now - is an initiative that began in Essex and is now growing nationally.

It was launched through a collaboration between Essex Chambers of Commerce, Practical HR Ltd, and the Essex Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner (PFCC), who recognised the benefits — for both individuals and employers — of engaging the business community in this vital issue. 

DAAWN’s mission is simple yet powerful: to work with businesses to raise awareness of domestic abuse in the workplace. We encourage employers to implement policies and provide awareness information in order to help create a culture where employees feel informed and supported.

By raising awareness, we can prevent abuse — or stop its escalation. For many people affected by domestic abuse, the workplace is not just a safe place; it is often the only safe place they have. This safety can be enhanced when employers take action by providing awareness, policies, and support. In doing so, businesses create a safe environment where employees feel seen, valued, and protected.

Domestic abuse affects lives far beyond the home. It impacts wellbeing, performance, attendance, and morale.
